Christmas... in July??
I recently came across a giveaway that showed me to the wonderful site http://www.einvite.com/holiday/, where you can go to personalize invitations, as the name suggests, also holiday cards, and cards for special occasions. I even created my own personal card:
I'll be saving that for holidays, and also referring my family & friends to that awesome website.
When one thinks of the holidays, they automatically associate it with winter, snow, cold , fireplaces, etc. But think - what if we celebrated our respective holidays in the summertime? Think about how different everything would be - our traditions would be totally different. There would be no chestnuts on an open fire - unless it was a bonfire! Other wise, it would be too hot! Everyone would celebrate it like we celebrate other holidays in the summer such as fourth of July, grilling out, swimming in the pool, going to the beach and stuff like that. Especially the invitations! Those would be cool in my opinion, bright, summery colors, instead of the muted, and elegant colors of the winter holiday season. That would definitely be a holiday I'm looking forward too, more than the winter holiday season!
What types of traditions would you adopt for Christmas in July?

GET. ME. OUT. OF HERE!!
I'm soo sick of being in my college dorm. It's not my roommate, and it's not like I'm feeling claustrophobic. This place represents a dark place for me. So many things happened here that I just want to forget.. and move on. I'm ready for CHANGE!! & going home this summer is going to be the pre-lude to that... the REAL change starts this fall, when I come back and get my stuff together. Until then.. I'm stuck here.. counting the says until I'm rescued and whisked away to a better place!!

Naturally Curly!
"Going natural" can be construed as many different things, from switching to organic foods & products, to letting go of modern technology completely and living as our ancestors once did...great for them, but that's not me.
My version of going natural has to do with my hair. Being of half white & half black heritage, also known as 'mulatto' I have a special type of hair. Now, everyone has a special type of hair in their own way, as far as texture, but you can basically categorize hair into two different textures, 'kinky' and straight. Kinky hair is usually attributed to african american people, and straight to white, asian, indian and other cultures. My hair is a special combination of both.
Now, to handle this 'special' hair, my mother, my aunts, my sisters all relaxed my hair with chemicals, that we call a 'perm', which makes the hair more straight and more manageable. Obviously, putting chemicals in your hair is going to damage it, and on top of that, to get it BONE straight, i would mash my hair in between two ceramic plates heated to 450 degrees.
I first got my inspiration to go natural from someone on youtube who had the same situation I had. I watched so many videos of girls who were fully natural, and finally, it clicked in my head that I COULD DO IT. I wanted my hair to be healthy, long, and bouncy like all the girls that I saw in the video.
My first step was to do a 'mini' chop. My hair was disgusting at the ends. Split ends, uneven, damaged, DISGUSTING. So I chopped them off. I didn't tell anyone; it was a split decision. I headed to the hair salon, right after the class early in the morning. And half my hair was missing, and from that time on, I was transitioning.
Transitioning is when you let your natural hair grow, so that you can cut the relaxed hair off and be fully natural! Some women op for the big chop, but I want to transition for 10 months and then have a little length when I cut it off. It didn't work out that way. My hair is currently breaking off so bad that I just want to get it over with! & That's what I'm doing.. as soon as I go home for the summer after the semester ends.
I plan to just cut down to the new growth myself, and then get it fixed at a hair salon. We'll see how that goes! For now, here are some pics from my transition:
My hair before my mini chop, relaxed and damaged.
My hair after the mini chop, the length that I started transitioning.
This is my hair in it's natural/relaxed state.
My natural hair slowly growing in! :)
That's it so far. Periodic updates and my big chop coming soon!

Trojan Vibrations Pleasure Package Giveaway
Win this : http://womantribune.com/trojan-vibrations-pleasure-package-giveaway sponsored by TrojanVibrations.com
A little about me.. my blog.. and of course, my hair!
So.. introducing myself, My name is Allyce, which is really what I go by, but a select few people call me "Lava", so don't get surprised if you see that sometimes. Now; my intention with this blog is to blog about my natural hair, makeup that I like (hence the title, Red Lipstick, Black Eyeliner) and finally, giveaways that I'm entering, and that you should enter too! I'll also be posting about different things sporadically, such as healthy recipes, weight loss, skincare regimens, etc.
My natural journey is something really important to me, it signifies my total life change from the way I used to live. Until I decided to go natural, I was living a life that I didn't like, but never had the energy or motivation to do it. But once I got my inspiration to go natural, everything just fell together, and this will be my documentation of that :) I know this introduction is really short, but I'll get into depth about each aspect in other posts! Hope you enjoy my blog! :D
